Pokemon

Yes, I've been playing Pokémon Go. My daughter talked me into it and now I might be hooked. So, of course I have to participate in the Pokémon Go Book Tag that was created by Aentee at Read at Midnight. My started for Pokémon was Squirtle because he is just so cute! Now I have all three, so I'm happy. I've loved reading since before I can remember. My mom tells stories about me following people around the house saying "rea" when I was a toddler. The story she tells me I had her read over and over again, even though I cried every time was Snoopy Come Home. The first books I remember loving were probably Nancy Drew Mysteries. I've been a mystery lover ever since. I have a Pikachu too. An book equivalent? A classic I love is The Count of Monte Cristo. I've only read it once though, it's a chunkster. It's more Pidgies that are everywhere around here, and rattata, but I get...

J is for Jolly Roger

The Jolly Roger is any of various flags flown to identify a ship's crew as pirates that were about to attack. The flag most commonly identified as the Jolly Roger today is the skull and crossbones, a flag consisting of a human skull above two long bones set in an x-mark arrangement, most usually depicted crossing each other directly under the skull, on a black field. This design was used by several pirates, including Captains "Black Sam" Bellamy, Edward England, and John Taylor. Some Jolly Roger flags also include an hourglass, another common symbol representing death in 17th- and 18th-century Europe. Despite the prominence of flags with art in popular culture, plain black flags with no art were often employed by most pirates in the 17th–18th century. Historically, the flag was flown to frighten pirates' victims into surrendering without a fight, since it conveyed the message that the attackers were outlaws who would not consider themselves bound by the usual rules...

F is for Forty

I turn 40 this year. On the one hand, it's not a big deal, on the other it's a little hard to believe. R is for Rowlf

R is for Rowlf

I was having a little trouble deciding what to use for my R post. Reading is a little too obvious. I could have done Race, but I used that for K. I thought of Relay for Life, since we had a fundraiser today, but I already have the Relay for Life link on my sidebar. And then I knew, R is for one of my favorite Muppets, Rowlf the Dog. Rowlf is a scruffy brown dog, a mutt with a rounded black nose and long floppy ears, created and originally performed by Jim Henson. Rowlf is the Muppet Theatre's resident pianist. Though Kermit the Frog is often credited as the icon of Henson's Muppets, Rowlf was actually the first true Muppet "star" as a recurring character on The Jimmy Dean Show, first appearing in a show telecast on September 19, 1963. He appeared in both pilots for the The Muppet Show and was part of the original cast when the showed premiered in 1976. Rowlf is a...

M is for Miss Piggy

M is for Miss Piggy

In one rehearsal, I was working as Miss Piggy with Jim, who was doing Kermit, and the script called for her to slap him. Instead of a slap, I gave him a funny karate hit. Suddenly, that hit crystallized her character for me -- the coyness hiding the aggression; the conflict of that love with her desire for a career; her hunger for a glamour image; her tremendous out-and-out ego -- all those things are great fun to explore in a character." -- Frank Oz in The New York Times Magazine, June 10, 1979. I have to admit I love all the Muppets, but one of my absolute favorites has to be Miss Piggy. Miss Piggy is a prima-donna pig who is absolutely convinced that she's destined for stardom, and nothing is going to stand in her way. Her public face is the soul of feminine charm, but she can instantly fly into a violent rage whenever she thinks she's insulted...

A is for A-Z April

A is for A-Z April

Photo credit (Looking at this photo, all I can imagine is how much it would hurt to step on theose little pieces in the middle of the night.) A is for A-Z April. That's right, the challenge for this month is an alphabet theme. Each day, except Sundays, will focus on a letter of the alphabet. Tomorrow, for example, will be B is for Borneo Tom. It should be a fun month. I've got a couple of things planned, a giveaway or two, some reviews, my standard Thusday's Tales, but they'll still go along with the letter of the day. Some letters I have no idea for yet, though. April's just a lovely month overall. spring is officially here. The flowers are blooming, and I think we can start planting in the gardens. Easter's next weekend, with and my husband's birthday is the following. And I can't forget the 24- hour Readathon. Luckily, S is for Stay Awake....
