Top Ten Tuesday | Authors I’ve Read the Most Books By

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Today’s topic is “Authors I’ve read the most books by.” I don’t know if I can be accurate with this one. I'm just going by my Goodreads account, so obviously that won't count books I read before 2006-ish. There are some obvious authors that won't make this list that should be included like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Carolyn Keene (who I know is not actually one person, but that's okay), and Francine Pascal. Mary Pope Osborne should be on the list because of all the books I read with Amber when she was little. There are some that will be on the list like Janet Evanovich who are not actually favorite authors, just easy reads. Also, the number I show for Agatha Christie is not really accurate; I've read almost all of hers over the years, but not all recently. Authors I’ve Read the Most Books By: Ngaio Marsh - 32 booksAgatha Christie -...

Sunday Salon (on a Monday)

Reading… The Turn of the Key by Ruth Ware (This is my pool book – a paperback that I’m not going to throw a fit if it gets wet.)Bone Canyon (Eve Ronin #2) by Lee Goldberg (for review from NetGalley) Listening To… The Fifth Season (The Broken Earth #1) by N.K. Jemisin Books reviewed last week… Westside by W.M. AkersA Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine Watching… We went to the drive-in on Saturday to watch Jurassic Park followed by Jaws. Halfway through the first movie, the projector broke and they had to quit the show. We could go watch the second show on one of the other screens, but there wasn't one I wanted to see, so we went home and watched them both on tv for free. Jurassic Park is still good even after 27 years; Jaws was less impressive. We did get two free passes for the drive-in though, so we'll definitely be going back again soon. In the kitchen this week… Southwestern Caesar salad with...

Westside by W.M. Akers

Westside by W.M. Akers

Westside is the first in a series starring Gilda Carr, a young woman who looks into what she calls “tiny mysteries.” She's not interested in solving murders - big mysteries mean big problems and Gilda doesn't need that. Her mom died when she was a kid, and her father, Virgil Carr aka “Clubber,” was not only the founder of a notorious Westside gang, he later became a notorious cop, vanishing in a notorious disappearance some years back. Our setting is Manhattan of 1921, but it's a stranger, darker, wilder place. Odd objects, coffee pots, stairway railings, entire buildings just disappear. Things rot and rust quicker. Machines stop working. Guns fail. The trees do well, though, growing fast and unnaturally tall. Streets become streams instead of the other way around. Occasional waterfalls form and descend from rooftops. It is where Gilda lives. And people disappear. In 1914 when over three thousand people vanished on the Westside, thirteen miles of fence was erected...

AkersThe Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin My favorite was A Memory Called Empire. I loved the world-building and the characters. It's also one of the finalists for this year's Hugo Award. My least favorite was Bishop to Queen. I didn't really connect with any of the characters and the story itself wasn't full enough for me....
