Sunday Salon – 10/13

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Group to participate. Week’s Highlight: We went up to the lake with some friends for the weekend. We went over to the Conneaut Lake Pumpkin Fest on Saturday where we bought the dog a new scarf and ate a bunch of junk food. We spent the evenings sitting around the fire. Of course, we stopped to feed the fish at the spillway before we left. Reading: I went to my first Silent Reading Club at a local bookstore. It was fun - and odd. I'll probably go next month, maybe get there a little earlier and hang out a little longer afterward. I posted two mystery reviews this week: Beyond a Reasonable Stout by Ellie AlexanderA Better Man by Louise Penny I also finished Double Indemnity by James M. Cain. I should have my comments up in a day or two. Looking forward to: Amber comes home next weekend for Fall Break. It will be nice...

Sunday Salon – 10/6

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Group to participate. Week’s Highlight: My mom and I went shopping yesterday, had lunch and dinner. It was a nice day. Friday we went to the high school football game. We wanted to see the new turf. It looks really sharp. Out team won 48-3. Reading: I finished two from my Classics Club list this week. I really enjoyed both of them. Bleak House by Charles Dickens Nine Tailors by Dorothy L. Sayers (my Classics Club spin read) Playing: We played Eternal: Chronicles of the Throne for the first time the other day. It's a card game where everyone gets a similar basic starting hand and yes that to buy better cards. You attach and defend using the Mondays and spells in your deck; last person standing wins. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. It plays up to 4 players, which is good many we had, but in our game David was...

Sunday Salon – 9/22

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Group to participate. Week’s Highlight: We went to the Beer, Barks & BBQ event supporting our local humane society. It was a fun evening. The food was good, pulled pork and all the sides. They had one of the local breweries' Oatmeal Stout, which David said was good. There was a bonfire, but they're weren't any chairs around it and we didn't bring our own, which was a little sad. So after we left, we came back to our house and a fire for a little while. Reading: I’m still listening to Bleak House. It's good, but it's not one of those ones that calls to me all the time. I read two collections this week. It's really no surprise that the Father Brown one was the better of the two. Haunted House Murder by Leslie Meier, Lee Hollis, and Barbara RossFather Brown: Selected Stories by G. K. Chesterton Playing: We finally got around...

Sunday Salon – 9/15

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Group to participate. Week’s Highlight: David and I went to see a local theater company do Sleepy Hollow last night. Some of the actors were really good and the scenery was simple but evoked the scenes well. The story varied a bit from Washington Irving's story, but it was fun. Reading: I'm still listening to Bleak House. I'm enjoying how all the characters' - and there are a lot of them - lives intertwine. I only posted one review this week, Binding Dante Lovelace. It's the second in a series that I kinda love and is perfect for fall. The main characters are demons, and while they do their jobs and put people straight on the path to Hell, they're not really evil. Playing: A new to us game that we've been playing a lot lately is Scythe. It's set in an alternate-1920s with a steampunk feel. It's definitely a good addition...

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Groupto participate. Week’s Highlight: Amber and I went to Oglebay on Friday. We did the zoo, including the train ride, and the glass museum. It was a fun afternoon. My mom and I went to the Shaker Woods Festival on Saturday. I bought a couple of cute things and had Smores sweet potato fries. I was going to get a cute denim jacket with lace around the bottom, but someone bought the one I was looking at. :( Reading: I started listening to Bleak House. It's long, but so far I'm enjoying it. Have you read it? What did you think? This week’s posts: It Burns by Marc FennelBread by Scott Cutler Shershow Playing: So, we’ve been participating in a #gameadaychallenge on Facebook for August. It’s been pretty fun actually. We got Kingsburg to the table for the first time this year. Looking forward to: Amber's heading back to college on Labor Day, which means this is her last...

Thanks to Deb at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon. Stop over there or at the Facebook Group to participate. Week’s Highlight: We spent Saturday afternoon at the aviary. We finally got to see the Soar! show on the Skydeck. The trainers showed off some of the aviary's predators, including vultures, kites, and a hawk. Reading: My boss gave me a short book he thought I might find interesting, so now I have to read it. What do you do when someone more or less makes you borrow a book? Does it make a difference who it is? This week’s posts: A Gentleman’s Murder by Christopher HuangA Whisker in the Dark by Leighann DobbsThe Sentence Is Death by Anthony Horowitz Playing: So, we've been participating in a #gameadaychallenge on Facebook for August. It's been pretty fun actually. After the aviary, we obviously had to play a game of Wingspan. Looking forward to: Mom and I are going to Shaker Woods next weekend, which will be fun, presuming it doesn't rain. Amber doesn't go back...
